Following on from the outstanding success of their 2005 Winter Challenge event, the Sea France sponsored Cannonball Run Europe headed back to the French Alps for round two of the non-stop Winter Action on Saturday 14 January 2006
The group of cars including a Mercedes CL500, Ferrari, BMW’s, Audi’s, Porsche 911 and the Vanishing Point Supra, met at a venue near Gatwick before setting off from Dover at 3.15pm. After arriving in Calais they drove directly to their first party stop at The Havana, a club/restaurant in the heart of Brussels. The group partied until the early hours followed by a drive through the night to the top European resort of Val Thorens, evading the attention of the French Police.

After a quick change in to their gear, the Cannonballers were skiing by mid morning, stopping only for lunch at one of Val Thorens most popular restaurants and skiing on throughout the rest of the day in the fantastic snow conditions that the French Alps were experiencing.
Monday saw the first of the Cannonball challenges; night snow-mobiling.
30 ski-doo’s took to the snowy slopes of Val Thorens in a large convoy, exploring the hidden run’s of Europe’s highest ski resort! |
Tuesdays fix of madness and mayhem was played out in The Cross Car Challenge setting Cannonballers loose in 500cc Kawasaki engined buggies on the Andros Trophy Racing Track.
Wednesday was a day off for the group with most choosing to tear around the slopes at their own pace, stopping for the occasional beer or two, or three….
Thursday proved to be the most physical of the challenges with an all day 3 Valley Marathon. Stretching from Courchevel to Val Thorens and totalling 50 miles of skiing. The participants had to race back to the last ski lift, otherwise they would have been stranded in Meribel for the evening!! Luckily they all made it back…….just! |

On Friday some of the group decided to make the most of their last day on the slopes whilst others opted for the more adventurous Paragliding. The last evening was celebrated Cannonball-style as the group sat down for a lavish 3 course meal, which carried on to the wee hours of the morning
The exhausted but elated group returned from the French Snowfest on their Sea France ferry at 18:30 on Saturday evening arriving back in the UK to reflect on their week of madness and to look forward to next years adventure. |
